April Journaling Prompt

Find Joy In The Ordinary!

This month is all about tracking the ordinary in life in a fun, colorful way!  Have you heard of Fauxbonichi journaling?  I recently discovered it and I am in love!  Fauxbonichi is a D.I.Y. version of the original Japan inspired Hobonichi Planner.  In a fauxbonichi journal you document your day-to-day life in a visual way.  Some people use clipart, magazine clippings, daily ephemera, personal pictures, cards, die cuts, doodles, and the list goes on….When I journal in my fauxbonichi I try to keep things positive and light by listing my activities, events of the day, or anything meaningful.  It isn’t a place for my to gripe and moan about my frustrations.  If I need to vent that goes in a completely separate, private journal. 🙂

I created my fauxbonichi journal out of a cheap composition notebook.  I got this idea from Never Hopeless by Elizabeth on Youtube.  She has great tutorials on how to set-up your fauxbonichi using a composition notebook and step-by-step instructions on how she journals.  She is truly inspirational.  Be sure to check out her channel for extra tips and tricks.  She does daily spreads, even though she doesn’t journal daily.  She uses Post-It notes and details her days on those until she has the time to journal.  I find myself playing a lot of catch up, especially because I am in my third trimester and extremely exhausted. I use a journal app. on my phone to document my days and find it to be the easiest.  For the most part, I always have my phone with me and can jot down my thoughts, activities, and events for the day effortlessly.  Also, if I take any personal pictures on my phone I can add it to the day.  The journal app. I use is called Journey, but I am sure there is a lot of other options out there too.

Another great resource for fauxbonichi journaling is Crafty Hodges on Youtube.  She creates her journals out of magazines.  The image below is one of my magazine journals inspired by her.  I just love her style of journaling.  Instead of doing daily spreads she does weekly spreads.  I may switch to weekly spreads instead of daily.  We will see.  After doing fauxbonichi journaling for awhile it can be a bit daunting to journal everyday or playing catch up to keep daily entries.  If you have a hard time with daily spreads try the weekly spread method.  It might be more manageable for you.

I offer these prompts as inspiration to find the extraordinary in the ordinary!  That is the beauty of documenting your life daily….even a trip to the grocery store can be exciting.  Plus, it’s fun to look through all the colorful, visual pages and remember certain glimpses in time that would otherwise be forgotten.
